The Living Labs will focus on developing and testing new technologies and business models for the next generation of wireless networks.

Introduction

The Canadian government has announced a significant investment in the development of next-generation wireless networks. The Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks, a collaborative initiative between industry partners and government, will establish eight Living Labs across the country. These Living Labs will serve as testing grounds for new technologies and business models, paving the way for the creation of more efficient, secure, and innovative wireless networks.

The Strategic Innovation Fund

The $45-million investment from the Federal Government’s Strategic Innovation Fund will support the development of the Living Labs. This fund is designed to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in Canada, and the investment in the Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks is a prime example of this. The fund will provide the necessary resources and support for the Living Labs to develop and test new technologies and business models.

Living Labs: A New Approach to Wireless Network Development

The Living Labs will be established in eight different locations across Canada. These locations were chosen based on their unique characteristics and the potential for innovation.

Industry Focus

The Living Labs will be situated in three key regions: British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec. These regions have been chosen for their unique strengths and opportunities in various industries. British Columbia is known for its thriving tech industry, with a strong presence of companies in the fields of artificial intelligence, data analytics, and cybersecurity. Ontario is home to a diverse range of industries, including automotive, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing. Quebec, on the other hand, has a strong focus on innovation and entrepreneurship, with a growing presence of startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
